JSHS Welcomes the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Sponsor

Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) is pleased to announce that the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) has joined the U.S. Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force as sponsor of the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) competition.

“It has been over 20 years since JSHS has added a partner and we are very excited to bring OSD on board as our newest, “said Andrea Malenya, national JSHS Program Manager. “OSD brings a wealth of opportunities and knowledge to the program and competition cycle that will help us reach more students and achieve our mission of exposing students to STEM opportunities in the academic, industrial, and governmental communities while increasing the research and development capabilities of the future U.S. workforce. This is an energizing addition to the program that all our partners have welcomed.”

JSHS is pleased to include the Department of Defense (DoD) seal on all materials and documents to indicate the OSD partnership. The OSD office has also expressed their pleasure in this new partnership.

“The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) is thrilled to be a part of Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) efforts,” said Dr. Bindu Nair, director of Basic Research. “JSHS connects more than 8,000 talented high school students, their teachers, regional academic institutions and their faculty researchers who support these students to become our Nation’s future innovators. JSHS partnership with OUSD(R&E) and the Military Departments will broaden JSHS participants awareness of DoD Critical Technology Areas, and the DoD STEM educational and career opportunities associated with them”.

JSHS is administered by the National Science and Teaching Association (NSTA). For more information, please contact [email protected].
