JSHS invites high school students to report on the results of their original research investigations in STEM and compete for scholarships and recognition at university-held regional symposia. Students in grades 9-12 enrolled in public, private, or home schools are eligible to participate in their local Regional Symposium. See Rules of Competition for eligibility details. There is no cost to register for or participate in a regional JSHS event. If you are asked to pay a fee to register, please contact us at admin@www.jshs.org.

The Greater Washington, D.C. region includes Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax counties in Virginia. Additionally, the Greater Washington, D.C. region includes high schools located inside the I-495 Beltway in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland. Maryland students who are unsure which region to participate in should reach out to the Maryland JSHS for guidance.

Information and dates for 2026-27 regional events will be posted in the fall of 2026.
