50th National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium
May 2-6, 2012
Bethesda, Maryland
The 50th National JSHS is designed to celebrate the STEM achievements demonstrated by 240 high school students advancing in research paper competitions at regional symposia held on nationwide university campuses, in Puerto Rico, and in the DoD Dependents Schools of Europe and the Pacific. The 50th National JSHS will showcase and recognize high-school STEM research through Oral Paper Presentations and Poster Board Sessions. In addition, JSHS will offer exhibitions, discussions groups, and general sessions featuring world renowned STEM talent.
Contributing to the technical program are the host for the 50th National JSHS -- the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Research & Technology (DASA) -- and STEM researchers within the military and Federal R&D laboratories in the Greater Washington, D.C. area. Planning is underway with the following laboratories...
Air Force Office of Scientific Research
Army Research Laboratory
Medical Research & Materiel Command
Office of Naval Research
Naval Research Laboratory
NASA Goddard Space Center
National Institutes of Health
U.S. Department of Energy
Educational enrichment activities will be planned with a visit scheduled to the National Mall -- a tree-lined open space between Constitution and Independence Avenues extending from the Washington Monument to the U.S. Capitol Building. Ten of the museums of the Smithsonian Institution are located on the National Mall, offering a variety of exhibits ranging from art to space exploration. West Potomac Park and the Tidal Basin are adjacent to the National Mall and home to the national monuments and memorials.
At the closing Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening, twenty-student researchers will be especially recognized and presented with undergraduate, tuition-based scholarships in seven categories of National JSHS competition.
Come join the celebration of the 50th National JSHS -- a Legacy of Innovation -- and discuss the future exciting STEM opportunities critical to our nation's STEM leadership. We look forward to seeing you there!
